EXPORT DECLARATIONS - YOUR OBLIGATIONS TO BORDER FORCE
All goods being shipped out of Australia must be reported to the Australian Border Force (ABF) via an Export Declaration or an exemption code. An Export Declaration is required for goods valued over AUD 2000, those needing an export permit, goods claimed for duty drawback, or items that are dutiable or excisable with unpaid duties. There are some exemptions to this including personal effects, pets, goods valued under AUD 2000, and others.
There are no customs duties on exports, and the exportation of services is not controlled by customs. Generally, exports of goods and services are exempt from Goods and Services Tax (GST) if specific criteria are met. The same export regulations apply to goods sent to Australia’s external territories, such as Christmas, Cocos (Keeling), and Norfolk Islands. Moreover, the Australian Government regulates and restricts the export of certain goods, which can be identified by referring to the list of prohibited goods.
